Ready To Be Roasted By Robots? Here’s What AI Thinks Of Tesla’s Instagram Profile

Just learned a fun new application of ChatGPT: ask it to roast a social media profile.

Example: “Roast Tesla Instagram in one paragraph: https://www.instagram.com/teslamotors/”

ChatGPT’s analysis:

Tesla’s Instagram feels like it’s trying to sell the future with the enthusiasm of a tech bro who just discovered meditation. The posts are a mix of sleek car photos and vague promises of innovation, but they have the personality of a robot on autopilot. It’s like they’re trying to be both mysterious and cool, but end up looking more like a hype machine that’s running low on battery. The captions might as well say, “Look how shiny this is,” because that’s about the depth you’re getting. For a company obsessed with breaking boundaries, their Instagram plays it surprisingly safe—just like an autonomous vehicle sticking to the speed limit.

Ouch — burrrrn! When a robot tells you that you have the personality of a robot, that’s personal.

I asked the AI to explain its approach. Response:

Roasts are all about humor, creativity, and a bit of playful exaggeration. To craft a good roast, I focus on identifying some quirky or awkward aspects of the target (in this case, an Instagram profile) and then amplify those features with a humorous twist. The key is to balance sharp wit with a touch of light-heartedness so it comes across as funny rather than mean-spirited. I also try to capture the tone and style that fits the context, aiming for something that feels authentic and entertaining. Plus, it’s fun to play with words and concepts, so that adds to the roast’s punch!

OK. I would say it’s a little mean-spirited, and, as usual these days, “authentic” is misused. But how did ChatGPT evaluate those photos? Well, it didn’t…

I actually don’t have the ability to directly view or analyze photos, so I rely on the information provided in captions, descriptions, and the context you give me. When I craft a roast, I’m drawing on common patterns, stereotypes, or tropes associated with certain types of content or social media profiles. I creatively imagine what those profiles might look like based on the descriptions or known characteristics and then craft a roast that fits that imagined scenario.

In other words, ChatGPT operates like most bloggers.

Overall, I found this particular roast tasty, but am not sure whether to say “good robot” or “bad robot.”
